Goldstream Sports Classic Ski Trail, Tracks Are Set

by Joel on Dec.17, 2010, under Goldstream Classic Ski Trail

The  Goldstream Sports Classic Ski Trail is in great shape. I set track  and have skied it. The 4k we added last year is a blast. It is narrow with a mix of straight and winding sections. Most has moderate grades but there are a few steep hills.

The section we built 2 years ago is 4.5 k of  trail similar to the new section but without the steep hills.

The trail head is in front of the store and heads out on a mix of privet and DNR land.  It is four feet wide  with a set track totaling 8.5 k. Ski it both directions for a total of 17 k.

There are a few trail maps out on the trail and arrows at some intersection.  I would recommend looking at the map on the blog before you come.  Goldstream Classic Trail

Come and enjoy. Donation’s are welcomed. It takes  3-5 hours to we groom the full trails system.

Winter Bike Mania Hits Goldstream Sports This Friday

by Joel on Dec.14, 2010, under News

Fat Bike Slideshow and Discussion with Jeff Oatley

December 17th, 6.30pm!

Jeff OatleyJeff Oatley

Join us for an evening with Jeff Oatley and a little Fat Bike Mania!

Come and see how Jeff packs for his adventures and races!  He will be riding his bike to the store fully loaded as if he were going on the Iditarod Invitational.

Jeff was the Champion of the 2009 350-mile Iditarod Invitational Bike race, 2nd place finisher in 2010.

This is your chance to see how a pro packs for an unsupported bike race across the toughest conditions in Alaska’s bitter winter! Check out the race website!
The race website says “
Winning or even finishing in the extremes of Alaskan winter weather depends on how comfortable the racers are with their abilities, level of experience and amount of risk they are willing to take. And take a look at the video! An
d, look out for Jeff in the 2011 race in February!  He is first on the roster, and is in very good company with a very accomplished field of riders, skiers and runners.

Jeff has been racing bikes since he was a kid.  He has extensive knowledge of endurance bike riding and racing, and will have a slideshow of some of his winter racing and adventures.  He will have some great stories to tell about winter biking, and, what a better time to ask for tips on food, camping gear, clothing – but most of all – how do you fit it all on to your bike!

I must say, the nicest thing about Jeff is how humble he is.  I guess it is all that time on the bike gives one perspective on life.  We are looking forward to this great evening.  Tell your friends, and why not ride your fat bikes!!!  We will have some bikes on hand for test-riding.

Enjoy home-made chili to warm you in these cold temperatures, and some other delicious food and beverages.

Notes: LF top coat wax will be better with the humidity and LF waxes are also harder and resist drag from the sharp  new snow crystals. Cold power is a hardener to resist the sharp new snow crystals. Classing skiing at groomed trails will be best because the tracks get  skied in quickly improving speed.
