Goldstream Sports Classic Ski Trail, Tracks Are Set
by Joel on Dec.17, 2010, under Goldstream Classic Ski Trail

The Goldstream Sports Classic Ski Trail is in great shape. I set track and have skied it. The 4k we added last year is a blast. It is narrow with a mix of straight and winding sections. Most has moderate grades but there are a few steep hills.
The section we built 2 years ago is 4.5 k of trail similar to the new section but without the steep hills.
The trail head is in front of the store and heads out on a mix of privet and DNR land. It is four feet wide with a set track totaling 8.5 k. Ski it both directions for a total of 17 k.
There are a few trail maps out on the trail and arrows at some intersection. I would recommend looking at the map on the blog before you come. Goldstream Classic Trail
Come and enjoy. Donation’s are welcomed. It takes 3-5 hours to we groom the full trails system.

The new Goldstream Sports Classic Ski Trail is in great shape. I set track yesterday and skied it this morning. The 4k we added this year is a blast. It is narrow with a mix of straight and winding sections. Most has moderate grades but there are a few steep hills.

I hope to get some trail maps up at the trail head and intersection in the morning. Come and enjoy. Joel
New classic trail construction finished
by Joel on Nov.01, 2009, under Advocacy, Goldstream Classic Ski Trail, Ski
We finished cutting about 4 additional km of ski trail today. It will be a blast but we do need another foot of snow before we will have it dialed with the grader and tracksetter. We should have a detailed map with accurate distances by Ski Fest. For now it is passable on rock skis but very bumpy with lots of sticks. Back Country skis would be best now, race skis when we have enough snow will work great. Thanks to Tyson, Kai and Lorien for all their hard work. Joel
Volunteer work day on the Goldstream Classic Ski Trail
by Joel on Oct.23, 2009, under Advocacy, Goldstream Classic Ski Trail
Ski Trail work day Saturday Oct 24th at 11 am. We will be clearing trail that Tyson and I have marked out this week. We will be brushing with chain saws and a brush mower. We have 4 Km flagged that needs clearing. some of it is on existing trail that needs clean up and some is though birch that just needs some dead fall cleared. We also have some areas of small dense spruce that will be the most work. When completed and we have good snow cover we will have about 8 km of trail with a set classic track. Bring work gloves, if you have a chainsaw that you can bring the would be great.
Building Classic Ski Trails
by Joel on Oct.20, 2009, under Goldstream Classic Ski Trail
We are building more classic ski trail this week. Last year we built and groomed 4 km. Our goal is to have 10km of trail right from the shop. We will see what we can get done before the snow comes. We will be marking new trail Tuesday and Wednesday and will start brushing it out Wednesday. We keep the trail as narrow as we can and still set a quality track. Joel
Interbike Part 1: Riding the demo bikes
by Tyson on Sep.21, 2009, under Bike, Goldstream Classic Ski Trail
Today Joel and I had an exhausting day riding lap upon lap of hot desert test rides. After riding bikes from Trek, Rocky Mountain, Specialized, and Surly, we have come to the conclusion that the Trek and Fisher bikes were our favorites. We rode both mountain and road bikes today. The electronic Dura-Ace drivetrain systems were impressive, we were able to find road and time trial bikes that had the new groupo on them and they were amazing. Although I am not sure it would be worth the extra cost to upgrade to electronic shifters and derailers they sure are fun and maybe the most useful on a tt bike. One of my favorite bikes of the day was the new Trek Scratch 9, it has a bit more travel than what my usual Hifi gives me and I felt super confident taking all the little drops on the course with ease. Joel was not as into the the Scratch as I was, but his favorite was by far the new Trek Carbon Remedy which has a little more travel then his new ride at home ( the Roscoe). The Remedy had a very lively and “conneted to your body” feeling to make cruising the course effortless. We were finally able to ride the new 6 Series Madones from Trek, THEY WERE SWEEET!!! I felt so good and fast on the Madone, it was hard to return it to the Trek tent.
Tomorrow we will ride a few other new and amazing bikes. I am really looking forward to riding the Rumblefish and the Superfly 100
More updates to come later, time to eat, Tyson

Skiing the Trail
by Joel on Feb.18, 2009, under Goldstream Classic Ski Trail
I skied the trails yesterday and it was great. The new track setter makes for smoother cornering. We are working on one last detail. When we lift the track setter because the corner is to sharp for a track the trail is left quite rough. We are putting a comb mat of the back of the track setter to smooth out the trail when the track setter deck is lifted. The track currently has just a light layer of snow in it. I would recommend Start Tar Black this morning and Blue this afternoon for kick wax. Tar waxes are designed for fresh snow.
